The Dublin Pub, situated on the corners of Fifth & Wayne Streets in Dayton, Ohio, has been an Oregon District hot-spot since it first opened its doors in 1983. The Pub’s patrons can be generally described as established professionals (the 30-to-50-something crowd), however, when the Pub features a Celtic band on any particular night, the crowd is very diverse. The Dublin Pub is known for its lively entertainment, hardy food, and spirited beverages – it is certainly a hub for Celtic-American culture and tradition in the city. I dare you to have a visit to the Pub on St. Paddy’s Day! lol! Oh, you’ll never make it out of there sober, if at all conscious –
For the Emerald Parlor’s Dinner In a Costume event, we choose the Dublin Pub as our first restaurant review. We ladies at the Parlor were not disappointed. Before we even walked into the door, we were greeted by a friendly patron who played the gentlemen and held open the door as we shimmied our bustles through. With many establishments that have a “seat yourself” policy, such as the Pub, patrons often find themselves awkwardly waiting for a longer period of time before a staff member greets them and gets them started on refreshments. Not so at the Pub. We were attended to almost immediately by Trish, our wonderful server. She was cheerful, she was attentive, but most of all, she was thoughtful. I’ve had Trish as a server on two other visits to the Pub, and on both occasions I was treated as pleasantly and served as well as we ladies were (in all of our Victorian finery) a couple Saturday’s ago. She not only provided us with good service, but she acted as the go-between between us and the many curious patrons who wanted to know who we were and what we were doing! lol! And I dare say, Trish is a good photographer, too – I don’t recall how many pictures she snapped with this camera and that camera, but thank heavens she doesn’t charge a photographer’s fee! She was very gracious, to say the least –
We ladies ordered the Pub Fries and the Blarney Stones to begin, and let me tell you, if you order any appetizer, order the Blarney Stones! They are these deep-fried, Hush-puppy shaped potato balls stuffed with sausage and cheese – Oh.My.Delicious. They are served with a side of what tastes like a chipotle sour cream – wash that down with an ice cold Guinness, and there’s your meal, right there! lol! On separate occasions to the Pub, we girls have indulged in several of their savory dinners, like the Boxty, Fish & Chips, Guinness Beef Stew, and Shepherd’s Pie, and on all of those occasions but one the food was good. Tonia had an experience about a year ago where the Guinness Beef Stew had far too much garlic, but this was a single incident and the kitchen immediately offered to correct the issue with another entrée of Tonia’s choice.
For those of you who love live entertainment, let me tell you that the Pub is packed on those evenings where a Celtic band is featured. You’d think that you’d be hard-pressed to get service! While I’ll admit you’d have to have ninja skills to get to the bar, the serving staff, despite the crowd, is quick, friendly, and accommodating – so unless you are up for a game of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, stay at your seat and let the wonderful wait staff take care of your needs – unless you have to tinkle of course, and then you’re on you own – lol!
The ladies of the Emerald Parlor applaud the Pub’s outstanding service and friendly atmosphere! For more information on the Dublin Pub, its hours, specialties, and entertainment schedule, follow the link on this page. In the meantime:
~An Irish Blessing~
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind always be at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
