The McCall’s pattern company was found in 1870. It is a privately owned company, and currently sells patterns under the McCall’s, Butterick and Vogue brand names.
Angela’s McCall Review: I do like the style of McCall designs – they are younger and hipper than their sister company Butterick. However, if I have has issues with any commercial pattern company, it’s McCall. Their patterns are generally workable, and the flaws are minor, however, it can be very confusing to a new or novice sewer when they encounter patterns pieces that do not match up (Are these two patterns pieces for the same dress size?). I have encountered several patterns (oddly, all bodices), where, for example, the side front piece will be 2 or more inches longer than the side back piece. This is not good! lol! So be weary of this issue and do not feign if you should happen to run into this issue – it’s nothing so drastic it cannot be adjusted –
Tonia’s McCall Review: As Angie noted, McCall’s patterns are generally easy to use, and do occasionally have an issue with some pieces having been drafted longer than some of the others. As with their sister company, Butterick, I have a major dislike for how these pattern fold to go back into the envelope. They are folded oddly, causing the tissue sheets to be too bulky to fit back into the envelope easily.
