According to the James County Mercantile, “Years of research and experience with authentic period garments have led to their creation. Old World patterns are not simply copies of existing garments – they are original creations that faithfully represent the prevalent fashion trends of each period, from the basic silhouette to the most meticulous details and construction techniques. Since body shape has drastically changed since the 19th century,a necessary departure from from historically accuracy has been made in that regard. Our patterns have been drafted to fit the contemporary male or female figure.”
These patterns are printed on brown paper and are drawn in heavy back ink – this makes the pattern easily traceable.
