This pattern does not come in a size larger than 6-8, despite this, I was able to increase the size to 10-12 with ease just by adding 1″ to the length and 1/4″ width to the bodice pieces – there was no need to adjust the pocket sleeve to account for the size increase (the sleeve pattern being slightly large to begin). Please note that 1/4″ elastic is inserted in the sleeves – I recommend using 1″ less per recommendation from the elastic guide. For example, 8″ of elastic, according to the elastic guide, is needed for a size 8 gown – this is too much and the sleeve is too loose on the shoulder – so rather than 8″, use 7″ for a comfortable fit.
This pattern would be relatively difficult for a novice sewer because of the unique bodice and sleeve structure. The directions and illustrations for this gown are a little vague, but in defense of this, this pattern is meant for an advance sewer who does not need every detail explained or illustrated. There is a fair amount of hand sewing for the bodice lining – I just used a simple, yet very delicate, whip stitch. It is also recommended that the sewer have a serger on hand for the hemming detail on the organza over skirt, if indeed the organza over skirt dress option is being used. It gives a cleaner, more professional look to the gown – organza is not the easiest material in the world to sew – so use what you can to your advantage!
